PC Players receive the 'Casino Night Zone DLC' for free. The PC Version uses the low resolution 480p cutscenes from the Xbox 360 version. The 720p cutscenes from the PS3 version can be restored using a mod. Casino Night Zone. Check Out This Mod. Studipolis Zone wasn’t particularly impressive, as many Sonic Mania fans have stated in the past. This changes the boring Studipolis Zone for the classic Casino Night Zone. The 2020 Sonic Hacking Contest is here, and so is our special coverage of it. Throughout the week, we’ll be shining the spotlight on some of the entries you can play this year. Our first one involves a recreation of one Classic Sonic game into another Classic Sonic game, Sonic 2 Mania.

Sonic 2 Mania is just as the name implies. This mod aims to restore every level that was playable in the original Sonic 2, and even some beta levels that went unused are being brought back and re-imagined from the ground up.

Sonic Mania All Zones

The music comes from the mobile port of Sonic 2, which was coincidentally done by future Mania devs Christian “Taxman” Whitehead and Simon “Stealth” Thomley. It won’t stay this way, as the mod team themselves said on the entry’s page that this has only been done “for now”, but this isn’t surprising, due to this not being a final version of the mod anyway.

There’s even some new content here. As previously stated, beta levels, such as Hidden Palace and Wood Zone (the latter is called Secret Woods Zone in this mod) are being re-imagined and brought over as well. But there’s also original audio. Secret Woods ha an original track made by stringtunes, and a new 1-up sound effect has been made by Tajho.

As for the levels, as you can see, there’s a lot. Emerald Hill, Chemical Plant, Aquatic Ruin, Secret Woods Zone Act 1, Casino Night Zone, Hill Top Zone, Mystic Cave Zone, Hidden Palace Mobile, and Oil Ocean Zone are all playable in the demo. Casino Night Zone Sonic Mania Mods

Sonic 2 Delta is one of those rare hacks that is actually better than the original game. The original zones, with a few exceptions, are untouched; this hack restores zones that were cut during development.

While two of these zones (Wood and Hidden Palace) are available in the prototype ROM floating around the net, they’re in an unfinished and nearly unplayable state. One zone, Dust Hill, was restored based on a single mock-up screenshot; Winter Hill was based on an interview. Even Casino Night, which received a makeover since its beta state, has been restored to its former (very pink) look. The only zone that is incomplete in this hack is Genocide City, which is merely Chemical Plant with a different background and palette. Enemies from early revisions have also been restored

In addition to restoring cut zones, the hack adds a few new features: The ring counter now shows how many rings remain in a zone, the level select menu has been updated to allow access to the new zones, some Sonic 3 graphics have been ported, and even Knuckles has been ported from Sonic & Knuckles!

This is one of those hacks that simply must be played, its only flaws are the somewhat amateur-feeling level designs for the new zones and the fact it does not work on the real Genesis hardware.

The latest version is based off the revision 02 which was extracted from the Sonic Compilation for Sega Genesis. The ROM is called Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (W) (REVSC02). The ROM should be in BIN format. The patch is in xdelta format due to shifted data resulting in IPS patches containing original code.

• Emerald Hill Zone: Prototype layout elements and Coconut monkey enemies are replaced with the scrapped Snail enemies.

• Dust Hill Zone: Graphics similar to those featured in the mockup screenshot that was featured in many magazines. Scrapped level.
